Issue Position: Education

Issue Position

I believe that education starts at home and the success of a student is the fundamental responsibility of a parent or guardian.

I believe that primary education is essential for the future of our community and state. Socially and economically, we all benefit from equipping our students with the technical skills needed to succeed. The downstream benefits of a solid education are too numerous to list here, but I believe the adage that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

I believe that the sheer preventative and investment nature of education cannot be undervalued. All of this said, I maintain an equally strong belief that any dollars invested in education should be measured in tangible results such as less crime, lower recidivism, higher graduation rates, a trained workforce with more local hiring and an active entrepreneurial culture.

As your representative I am committed to:

Building legislative support to fund our schools and expand technology & vocational programs for early education.
Develop partnerships that will expand training and result in more local Alaskan hires.
Work to find creative funding solutions that support equitable school choice options.
Encouraging community funding support for preschool, summer, special needs and meal programs.
